Parland
Lois Marie
Lois Marie (Fitzjarrell) Parland passed from this earth to be with her Lord on December 13, 2017. She lived a full and rich life and will be especially remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt. Born in Overland Park, Kansas December 10, 1928, to Roy and Millicent (Rude) Fitzjarrell, she graduated from Shawnee Mission High School class of 1946. In April, 1951 she married Roger W. Parland who she met at a church choir picnic and spent the next 66 years with him singing by her side. In 1959 with their young family of 4 children they moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho where they lived until moving to Pittsburgh (Pleasant Hills) in 1967. Lois will be remembered for her beautiful singing that she shared with many choral groups through the years. Lois was very active in the Pleasant Hills Community Presbyterian Church including the chancel choir, bell choir, women’s association, and was active as an elder. And up until a couple of months ago, continued to sing with the church choir. She was a volunteer for many organizations through the years including Easter Seals, Meals on Wheels, Girl Scouts and active in the Pleasant Hills Garden Club. She made amazing Christmas cookies which will be sorely missed this year, she loved feeding her backyard birds who will miss her constantly shooing the squirrels away from their feeder, she always remembered to send birthday cards to her nieces and nephews and their children, and was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers fan. Lois is survived by her husband Roger, children Karen Coale and her husband Charlie of Bowie MD; Bill Parland and his wife Cindy of Parma OH; Julie Bailey of Pleasant Hills; Nancy Parland and her husband Steve Howland of Shelburne Falls MA; grandchildren Marie Coale, Becky, Katie (Kelly), & Melissa Parland, Wynter and Shelby Howland, and many nieces, nephews and their children.
She was predeceased by her brothers Earl, John, Austin and Bob Fitzjarrell and sisters Edna Lauck, Lucy Adams, and Marion White. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please consider a donation to your favorite charity in her memory.
