Lillian C. Senich (Hoellein)'s Obituary
On Thursday, Sept. 27, 2018, Lillian Senich passed away at 93 years old from cancer. Born on Oct. 18, 1924, to Conrad J. and Emma Lindner Hoellein, she was a lifelong resident of Pittsburgh and its South Hills. After graduating from South High School, she worked at the Union Switch and Signal, where she assembled side arms and the AZON bomb, used during World War II and considered one of the first guided weapons. There she met her husband, World War II veteran, George Senich of Homestead. They married June 3, 1950, and shared 58 years until his death. During her life, Lillian, "a jack of all trades," served both her community and family with her many talents. She also worked at the Federal Reserve Bank, Pittsburgh Branch, as well as at Hamburg Brothers vinyl record distributors and Ark Jay Kay, where she dealt with local broadcasters and was the steward of her Teamsters Union local. She was active in Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Whitehall, and she volunteered for many years in the kitchen of Meals on Wheels, Brentwood. Her friends and family remember her as an accomplished baker, cook and tailor. She was an avid reader and dog-lover, and she spent warmer months tending both flower and vegetable gardens and her winters completing jigsaw puzzles while sipping tea. Always a clever quick-thinker, she was skilled at many types of games, as well as accomplished at drawing and sketching. She will be lovingly remembered by her son, George Senich; daughter, Barbara S. Miller; and granddaughters, Merrill Miller and Christine Senich. Her brother, William A. Hoellein, is deceased. Visitation Saturday, Oct. 6, 2018, 10 a.m., followed by a service at noon in the chapel at the JEFFERSON MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, INC., 301 Curry Hollow Rd., Pittsburgh, PA, with Burial in Jefferson Memorial Park. Memorial donations may be made to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 418 Maxwell Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15236.
