Liberty DiGiacomo (Phaturos)'s Obituary
Peacefully, on Sunday, September 30, 2018, Liberty, age 94, went to be with our Lord and her family. Born on the North Side of Pittsburgh, Liberty was the daughter of the late Peter Phaturos and Eugenia Mandalozis. She was one of eleven children, all of whom preceded her in death, Mary, Thomas, John, William, Louis, Evelyn, Evangeline, Nicholas, James and Peter. She is survived by her children Carmen (Dorothy), the late Louis (Elaine Doyle), Arthur (Judy), Linda (Rich) Metrovich, and Cynthia (James) Baldrige. Liberty is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, thirty-one great-grandchildren and was a favorite aunt to many nieces and nephews. She was a proud employee of the department store “Zayre” that opened in Bridgeville on August 25, 1969 where she became the Assistant manager. Her work ethic went above and beyond expectations and her peer work friends loved and respected her loyalty and Greek names she would always call them. After Zayre (later became Ames) closed she retired only to find herself wanting to continue work at Kids ‘R Us in Pleasant Hills where she worked until she was Eighty years old. Family and friends will be received on Thursday, October 4, 2018 from 2:00 p.m. to 8: 00 p.m. at the JEFFERSON MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, INC., 301 Curry Hollow Road, 15236. A Blessing Service will be held Friday, October 5th, 2018, 12 noon, in the funeral home chapel. The family would like to thank Bethany Hospice for their wonderful care and compassion while Liberty was in their care. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in her name to Bethany Hospice, Six Parkway Center, 875 Greentree Road, Suite 100, Pittsburgh, PA 15220, or the Senior Citizens of Pennsylvania by purchasing a lottery ticket. Liberty never missed the 7:00 p.m. drawing of the PA lottery!
