Leona W. Palma's Obituary
On February 18, 2024 surrounded by her loving family, Leona Palma went to be with our Lord and her beloved husband, Martin, who preceded her in death.
Marty and Leona were married on May 3, 1952. Even after 67 years of marriage, the two of them were inseparable. Leona looked forward to her kiss after dinner every night, holding hands wherever they went and being the role model that their entire family looked up to.
Leona was very creative. She was a gifted poet from the young age of 16 and continued to write throughout her long amazing life. She loved to paint "happy little trees" while taking tips from Bob Ross.
Leona volunteered her time working with Mt. Oliver Recreation Association and Ambulance Service. But her biggest legacy was Sunday dinners featuring her amazing homemade spaghetti sauce and meatballs, that to this day, no one has been able to replicate. These family dinners brought her entire family together every week and created memories and bonds that will last a lifetime.
She is survived by her children Karen (Mark) Kirol, Joyce (Steven) Derrick, Geralyn (Michael) Kelly, and Martin (Anne) Palma; grandchildren Robert (Teresa), Kelly (Scott), Randy (Melanie), Stephanie (Greg), Leanna (Jarret), Sean, Connor (Shayna), Ryan, Jennifer (Rick), Emily (Alec), and Katherine; great-grandchildren Ava, Noah, Jonah, Mya, Cole, Colin, Elijah, Isaiah, Elena, Natalie, Vanessa, Westyn, Rylan, Ricky and Rowan.
Besides her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents Leo and Julia Walkowiak and siblings Rita Sidlauskas, Edna Valukevich and Norman Walkowiak.
Friends and family are welcome for visitation on Friday, February 23, 2024 from 2 - 4 pm and 6 - 8 pm at the Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh, 15236. A blessing service will take place on Saturday, February 24 at 10 am in the funeral home's chapel.
