Lawrence J. Zacharias' Obituary
Lawrence J. "Larry" Zacharias, a man of strong faith, gentle spirit, and loving heart, passed away peacefully on November 3, 2023. Born on January 14, 1942, in Pittsburgh, PA, Larry was a beacon of joy and laughter, whose presence uplifted those around him.
Larry began his career working on the railroad, a job that he held close to his heart. His dedication and hard work saw him rise through the ranks to become a respected locomotive engineer. His colleagues cherished his camaraderie, and his work ethic was an inspiration to all who knew him.
Larry's interests were as varied as they were passionate. He always looked forward to hunting with his son, fishing and golfing. Larry's strong faith was the cornerstone of his life, guiding him through all of life's challenges and joys.
Larry's love for music was infectious. He could be found playing country music on spoons and a washboard, much to the delight of his family and friends. His laughter was contagious, and his love for a good steak and sweets was unmatched. Larry also cherished his trips to Erie, PA, where he created many beautiful memories with his loved ones.
Larry is survived by wife, Louise Zacharias; his children, Rachelle Rodgers, Lisa (Gary Stevenson) Brooks, Lawrence (Jodi) Zacharias, Jr., Mary (Sean) Halerz, and John (Tina) Wester. He was a proud grandfather to Leah (Sean), Kristen (John), Ashley (Jesse), Josh (Amanda), Desiree, Lauren (Tyler), Savannah (Jimmy Kev), Nate (Jenna), Lydia (Nate), Destiny, Lanie, Lucas and Jordan and a great-grandfather to 18. Larry was also survived by his sister, Eileen, and his faithful dog, Louie. He was predeceased by his parents, Albert and Mary Zacharias, and his brothers, Jack, Francis, Richard, James, Charles, and William.
Larry's love extended beyond his immediate family. He will be remembered fondly by his many nieces, nephews, and friends, all of whom he cherished deeply. His kindness and generosity of spirit touched the lives of many, and his memory will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.
Larry's family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to DaVita Dialysis for their compassionate care and support. Their dedication made a significant difference in Larry's life, and for that, his family will always be grateful.
In remembering Larry, we celebrate a life well-lived. A life filled with love, laughter, and faith. A life that touched many and left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew him.
Friends and family will be received on Sunday, November 5th from 1-3 & 5-7 P.M. at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15236.
A funeral service will be held Monday, November 6th at 10 A.M. in the Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home Chapel.
