Lawrence "Larry" Joseph Strawniak's Obituary
Lawrence (Larry) Joseph Strawniak, 74 of Whitehall (formerly of Mt. Lebanon and Avella, PA) passed peacefully surrounded by his loving family on January 26, 2022. Larry was born on June 8, 1947, in New Castle, PA. He was the youngest son of the late Ignatius and Frances Strawniak.
Larry is survived by his wife Kathy of nearly 25 years of marriage but enjoyed nearly 34 loving years together. Larry was blessed with two wonderful children Sheri (Paul) Duing of South Park and Michael (Claudia) Milliron of Peters Township. He had three handsome grandsons, Alex Duing, Steven Duing and Matthew Milliron. In addition he is survived by his siblings, Arlene (Edwin) Mushalko of White Oak, Harold Strawniak of Port Vue, sister-in-law Barbara Strawniak of North Huntingdon, many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, as well as his fur child, Ginger. Larry is preceded in death by his brother Ignatius “Frank” Strawniak and his parents.
Prior to Larry’s retirement in 2011, he was employed by Pioneer Tool and Forge. Early in his 20s Larry was the drummer of the cover band the “Dynastics”. In life Larry enjoyed coaching his children’s sports teams, attending his grandchildren's sporting activities, horse racing, watching Pittsburgh sport’s teams plus he was a fan of Penn State, his alma mater. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends as well as traveling the US with his wife and their dog Eightball. In additional Larry enjoyed over 60 years of friendship with Rudy Skuhrovec. The two of them were destined to be friends for a lifetime from the time they met in grade school. Over the years Larry was a member of the Timbercreek Condo Board of Directors as well as enjoyed a variety of activities with his friends and family.
Larry was loved by everyone that knew him. In Spring of 2018, Larry had an opportunity to participate in an event sponsored by the Pittsburgh Pirates where he got to go to the Pirates batting cages for batting practice to hit the “hardball” in PNC Park. This was one of his most favorite highlights in recent years that he got to enjoy, but more importantly, he was able to share the experience with his family.
The family would like to thank Karlianne Burick of Americas Home Heath (his caregiver) for the exceptional care she provided to Larry as well as Allegheny Health Network Hospice Care for their dedicated staff.
Friends will be received on Friday, January 28th from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at the Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15236.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 29th at 10 A.M. in the Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Woodruff Cemetery in Washington, PA.
