Ken grew up in Crafton/Ingram, PA. He graduated from Crafton High School in 1950. He then went on to graduate from Slippery Rock State Teacher's College in 1954. He married to love of his life, Joyce, just one week after graduation in May of 1954. In September 1954, Ken was drafted into the Army and served as a part of the Military Police upon arrival in Germany. He returned home in 1956 and started a new job teaching at Hempfield Area School District. After leaving Hempfield, Ken spent the next 12 years as a coach, teacher and assistant principal at Bethel Park High School.
In August of 1968, his lifelong career started with the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors Association of Western PA (SMACNA). He worked as the liaison between the contractors and the Sheet Metal Workers' Union. In addition to his executive director role with SMACNA, Ken and Joyce owned an ice cream store, ZIPZ in Bethel Park for 4 years.
Ken and Joyce traveled all over the world, some related to Ken's career and others for their love of travel. Some of their favorite destinations included Hilton Head, Hawaii, Australia, Japan, Europe, and the South Pacific. After their retirement, they spent their winters in Singer Island, Florida. They made their homes in Bethel Park, North Strabane, and ending at Asbury Heights for the last 13 years. The family's favorite home of all was at the Youghiogheny Dam from 1972 to 2010.
His hobbies included coaching, refereeing, singing, boating and being in the great outdoors. Above everything else, family superseded everything!
