Kathleen H. Sommerfield's Obituary
Kathleen "Kathy" Hartner Sommerfield (73) passed away peacefully on November 10, 2024. Born in Pittsburgh to James and Lois Hartner; she was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Kathy is survived by her sons Jason (Richelle) and Jeffrey (Jennifer) Sommerfield, her grandsons Noah, Andrew, and Hunter Sommerfield as well as her siblings Dave (Barb) Hartner, Den (Colleen) Hartner, Peggy (Ray) Van Horn, Anne (Ray) Ross and Sandy (Bob) Weiss. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 48 years, Frank Sommerfield, and her twin brother, James (Diane) Hartner.
Kathy was an incredibly strong, loving and supportive person who will be remembered for her warmth and dry, witty sense of humor that brightened the lives of those around her. These qualities made her an amazing mother, which carried through into being an adoring grandmother to her three grandsons. She dearly enjoyed the Hartner annual family picnic, weekend getaways with her sisters, and regular outings with her cousin Pat. Kathy fostered many friendships throughout her life. She remained close with those from her youth, her cherished 30-year couples pinochle circle, and new friends from each chapter of her life.
Kathy will be remembered by all she touched. Following her wishes, there will be no formal services; instead, a small family gathering to celebrate her life will be scheduled at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude's Children's Hospital and Operation Smile would be welcomed.
