Karl H. Schmieder's Obituary
Karl H. Schmieder, Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on September 26, 2023. Born on December 21, 1932, Karl was a man of many talents and interests, who left an indelible mark on everyone he encountered.
Karl is survived by his devoted wife, Mary Ann Schmieder, and his four children: Lisa (Albert) DiGiovanni, Karen Schmieder Lageman, Karl Jr. (Cathy) Schmieder, and Mary Zandier. He was a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, all of whom he cherished deeply. Karl was predeceased by his sister, Marie Spahr, and his parents, Herman and Hettie Schmieder.
Karl was a dedicated worker, spending many years as a skilled carpenter at Brookside Lumber. His craftsmanship was admired by many and his work ethic was second to none. Karl also served his country with honor and pride as a US Army Veteran. His commitment to his work and his country was a testament to his strong character and dedication.
In his leisure time, Karl was an avid model builder and collector of die-cast cars. His attention to detail and patience were evident in the intricate models he created. Karl was also a dedicated NASCAR fan, spending his Sundays engrossed in the thrill and excitement of the races. His interests brought him great joy and provided countless hours of entertainment for his family and friends.
Family and friends will be received on Thursday, September 28, 2023 from 2 pm - 4 pm and 6 pm - 8 pm at the Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh, 15236. A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 29 at 12 noon in the funeral home's chapel.
