Karen Kress Cassel, born August 19th, 1953, passed away at Jefferson Hospital at the age of 66 on March 24th, 2020.
Karen is survived by her son, Rick Cassel III; her sister, Debbie McNeal; her brother-in-law, Eric McNeal; and their children, Tim, Katie, and Chrissy.
Karen grew up on Riverview Drive to Thomas and Dorothy Kress. She pursued education throughout graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School, Carnegie Mellon University, and then finally the University of Pittsburgh with an MBA in Market Research. Karen was active in giving back to the communities that she was a part of, serving as a member of the WJHSD School Board, as a Merit Badge Counselor and Eagle Scout Review Board Member, as an organist for St. John’s Lutheran Church in Glassport, and on the local Community Advisory Panels.
Karen was a caring mother and active member of her community. She worked passionately to help improve and secure the futures of many students and scouts, and others while on the CAP. She enjoyed watching nature, feeding the birds in her yard daily and pursuing gardening. She loved enjoying and playing music and used it to serve her church. She also worked constantly to bring together members of her family through avid research into genealogy. She will be sorely missed by her family, friends, and all who she knew.
