Julie Hickey's Obituary
Julie Hickey was born on October 13th, 1968, to Ellsworth Shade & Joanne Benedict. She grew up in Bradford, PA, with time spent in California, Colorado, & Bolivia prior to moving to Pittsburgh. Julie gave her whole heart to the people she loved, and she had many blessings in her life. She was a mother to Jake and Justin, wife to Mark, stepmother to Josh, Crystina, and Jeananne, Ma to her 7 grandkids, a sister, a counselor to her students, and a loyal friend.
Her sons, Jake and Justin, were her greatest loves and proudest achievements. They lit up her life. She always said ‘everything I do is for my boys’, and it shows. Jake is a regional safety manager in Charlotte and Justin is in his second year of medical school. It is obvious they adore their mom.
Julie valued kindness and compassion, adventure and family. Whether it was her friends, family or students, she made it a priority to give the values she cherished to those she loved. Julie graduated from the University of Pittsburgh and was a dedicated counselor for the West Mifflin school district for 25 years. She loved her students, carried their weight when needed, provided love, friendship and was a lunch buddy. Her students’ lives were better because they knew she always had their back.
Family and friends are welcome to join the family for visitation on Thursday, August 22, 2024 from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at the Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh, 15236.
