Josephine Schmidt's Obituary
Josephine Schmidt, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2024, at the age of 89. She was the loving wife of the late, Joseph Paul Schmidt. Born on November 7, 1934, in Pittsburgh, Josephine was the daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret (Danner) Norman.
“Jo” was known for her beautiful cursive handwriting, a skill of personal pride and discipline for those of her generation. Her attention to such details made her an important part of the highly regarded, family owned Schiffman Jewelers downtown, where she worked for more than 30 years putting her artistic and organizational skills to work as a “traditional” bookkeeper.
When not minding the jeweler’s books and raising her family, Jo enjoyed playing bingo like a professional, never playing less than 21 cards. Jo also enjoyed doing various crafts, and none were more prized than her amazing and beautifully crocheted afghans, never hesitating to take on the challenge of making a creation to fit a king-size bed when necessary. For fun, Jo liked western movies, word games & crossword puzzles, and when she played poker, she never used plastic chips.
Josephine was a devoted wife and mother, and known simply as “Aunt Jo” by countless nieces and nephews, but the role she cherished most in her later life was that of “Grandma”. She will be deeply missed, and her memory will be treasured forever in our hearts.
Josephine is survived by her three children, Joseph A. Schmidt (Barbara), Joanne Przybylski (Gregory), and Joel T. Schmidt (LaTrease) along with nine grandchildren, Gregory, Claudia (Stephen), Natalie, Brigita, Paulina, Nikolai, Michael, Maverick, Max.
All Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
