Joseph W. Belonus, Jr.'s Obituary
Joseph Belonus, age 74, passed away on Tuesday, February 4, 2025.
His journey began in the heart of Castle Shannon, where he lived up until 1987 when he moved to Whitehall with his wife Mary Ann. Joseph's early education at St. Anne's and South Hills Catholic High School laid the foundation for his lifelong pursuit of knowledge and excellence, culminating in a B.S. in Business from Duquesne University, where he graduated cum laude.
A patriot at heart, Joseph honorably served his country in the Air Force during the Vietnam War, stationed in Minot, ND, where his dedication and service were a testament to his character. His love for his country was matched only by his passion for the game of golf. An avid weekend golfer, Joseph meticulously planned vacations with golf in mind, including a special trip to Kauai that he often reminisced about. His skill on the greens was undeniable, highlighted by a remarkable hole-in-one on a course in Florida-a story he shared with pride and joy.
Joseph's love for the Pittsburgh Steelers was as steadfast as his swing on the golf course. He celebrated each victory with the same enthusiasm he brought to every aspect of his life. His kind and compassionate nature extended to all creatures, and his home was filled with the joyous barks of his four beloved dogs, who were his constant companions.
Joseph is survived by his wife of 50 years Mary Ann Belonus, siblings Mary Anne (Boyd) Hutchin, Jeanne (Robert E., Jr.) Fraas, Cindy (Robert L., Jr.) Bouis, James (Melia) Belonus, and Robert Belonus; brothers in law Allen Murphy and James (Vance Edeker) Stefl; nieces and nephews Kelly Hutchin Frey, Boyd Hutchin, Brian Hutchin, Mark Hutchin, Bethany Wagner, Erin Muffi, Robert Fraas, Michael Fraas, Robin Fraas, Patricia Fraas, Robert Bouis, Bree Anne Bouis, Brooke Bouis, Katie Belonus, and Thomas Belonus.
Joseph is preceded in death by his parents Joseph Sr. and Helen Belonus, sister Janice Murphy, and his nephew Brian Bouis.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at 10:00 am at the Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh, 15236.
