John W. Wagner, Jr.'s Obituary
John W. (Jack) Wagner, Jr., of South Baldwin, peacefully passed away on July 4, 2025 with family by his side.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years Carol Lee (Kapphan) Wagner, his parents John W. Wagner, Sr and Katherine G. (Sutton) Wagner. Survived by his beloved brother James W. Wagner the late June (Lang) Wagner.
Loving father of William T. (Helen) Wagner, Sr and Joy (Karl) Troetschel. Grandchildren Spencer J. Troetschel, Ashley L. (Alex) Ecklund, Sarah A. Wagner, William T. Wagner, Jr., as well as great-grandchildren, Hayden & Everett Ecklund.
John (Jack) Wagner worked 40 years in the elevator industry primarily at Otis Elevator as a Field Maintenance Technician and also as a Maintenance Supervisor. He was a proud union member of International Union of Elevator Constructors Local #6 in Pittsburgh, Pa.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks to both the International and IUEC Local #6 for honoring both his military service and union membership by making the installation of a stairlift in his home possible.
Chief Boatswains Mate John W. Wagner Jr. entered the US. Navy through the Bainbridge Md. Recruit Training Center in 1958. Through his 35-year career in the Navy Reserves, he served in numerous instructor billets at the Naval & Marine Corps Reserve Center Pittsburgh, PA. Additionally, he was assigned to Amphibious Construction Battalion Unit 2 in Little Creek Va and Officer in Charge of the reserve detachment at Weapons Station Earle NJ. BMC Wagner retired from the US Navy reserves on 01 April 1993. He always looked back on his service in the Navy with great pride, the pride that only those that go down to the sea in ships can understand.
He was also a Past Master of the Masonic Hall and member of the Syria Shrine.
Jack was a kind, generous individual for his family and friends. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone. He also enjoyed his time boating with family.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 8. 2025 from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at the Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh, 15236. A funeral service will be held on Wedensday, July 9 at 12:00 noon in the funeral home's chapel.
