John Volpe's Obituary
John Joseph Volpe passed into his final rest on Monday 27 March 2023 after an extended struggle and surrounded with love. He will be long remembered and is sadly mourned by his family, many friends and extended family who were blessed by his strength, support, commitment, intelligence and love.
John was born in Brooklyn, NY, and completed high school at St. John’s Prep where his classmates recognized him as both Class Genius and Most Likely to Succeed. He earned his Bachelor’s of Science from Fordham University in Nuclear Physics and returned to St. John’s Prep to teach Mathematics before achieving a 35-year career developing cutting-edge nuclear technology at sites across the country.
For as capable and competent as he was with the scientific rigor of his work, it was in the quality of his relationships that he made the greatest impact in the lives of the people he loved. If you were to ask him what his greatest accomplishment was he would without a doubt say his family. To meet him for the first time you would not suspect that he lived his life as a senior executive at Westinghouse. He was respected at all levels of the organization and loved dearly by his family. John had a passion for baseball, woodworking and golf.
John is survived by June A. Volpe, his wife of 65 years and mother of their five children Debbie, Johnnie, Kathie, Eddie and Pattie. The couple has 14 cherished grandchildren; Britttany, Dominic, Zach, Brock, Julie, Johnnie III, Tammie, Kennie, Gunner, Simon, Preston, Alyssa, Sydney, and Braden; 11 great grandchildren; Aria, Gia, Nina, Dominic, Demi, + one, Luna, Lyla, Emma, Ella, Johnnie IV, and Jaxson. John is also survived by his sister JoAnn, and is preceded in death by his sister Valerie and parents Frank and Josephine Volpe.
Family and friends are welcomed on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 from 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 pm at the Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pleasant Hills.
A Blessing Service will be held on Thursday, March 30, 2023 at 10 am in the funeral home's chapel.
