John "Jack" Travis
Passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 5, 2016, at the age of 88. Jack is survived by Helen, his wife of 62 years; he was the loving father of son, Jack Jr. and his wife Karlene, and daughter, Lynne and her husband Joseph McCabe, and daughter Lauren; he was the beloved Pop-Pop of six grandchildren and one great grandson. Jack was a WWII Navy Veteran who served in the Pacific. He was a 30 year employee of the U.S. Postal Service. Jack was an avid baseball fan who was scouted by the Cincinnati Reds, because of his "wicked side arm", but could not play because he had already enlisted in the Navy. He loved walking his dog, Buddy, in South Park. He will be dearly missed. Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 13, 2016, from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pleasant Hills where a Celebration of Life Service will be held Monday, March 14, 2016, 11 am in the funeral home chapel. Interment with Military Honors will be held immediately following the service at The National Cemetery of the Alleghenies. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society of Western PA, 1101 Western Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15233.
