John "Jack" Patterson, III's Obituary
John William Patterson, III, affectionately known as Jack to his friends and loved ones, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2024, at the age of 80 in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania. Born on January 23, 1944, in Homestead, he was the cherished son of the late John and Violet Patterson and brother to the late Robert Patterson. Jack's life was defined by his unwavering dedication to his family, his passion for his work, and his love of life's many adventures.
Jack's journey alongside his beloved wife, Sandra D. Patterson, began on September 23, 1966, marking the start of a loving partnership that would flourish over 67 years. Together, they built a life filled with joy, laughter, and an ever-growing family that includes their son, John A. Patterson; their daughter, Kristi L. (John) Dziadyk; and their adored grandchildren, Staci, Elizabeth, Carlee, Katie, Alyssa, John Jr., and Alexander; and great-granddaughter, Sa’mina.
A proud graduate who stood as valedictorian of the 1962 class at West Mifflin North High School. Jack's intellect and work ethic shone brightly from an early age. His commitment to service was evident through his time with the Army National Guard, and his professional life was a testament to his determination and skill. Jack's career at US Steel spanned many years, where he began as a crane operator and ascended to the role of a metallurgical engineer, showcasing his expertise and dedication to his craft.
Jack's interests and hobbies painted the picture of a man who embraced life with vigor and enthusiasm. From the thrill of drag racing cars in his younger days to the tranquility of boating on Yough Lake, he pursued his passions with zeal. Jack's love for motorcycles was matched only by the joy he found in spending time with his grandchildren, especially when it involved creating magical memories at Disney.
An accomplished auto mechanic, Jack turned his talent into a legacy by opening Patterson Auto Service, Inc. over 35 years ago. His business is not only proof of his mechanical prowess but also as a gathering place for those who appreciated his funny, loving, and wise nature. Jack's laughter and sage advice became as much a part of the establishment as the services it offered.
As we bid farewell to Jack, we celebrate a life lived to the fullest, a life rich with love, laughter, and the pursuit of happiness. His legacy will continue to inspire and guide us, and his memory will forever be etched in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
