John A. Masta's Obituary
On Tuesday August 18, 2020, John A Masta, loving husband and father of three, passed away peacefully at the age of 89.
John was born on November 24, 1930 in Pittsburgh and grew up in the town of Hays during his early years. John attended Brentwood High School where he was the quarterback on the varsity football team and where he met his wife, Dolores Deutsch. After high school, John served in the US Navy and after his service, entered into the home building business for the next 60 years. John and Dolores were married on August 11, 1952 and raised three children, daughters Vickey and Laurie and son Marty.
John was passionate about his family, his friends, his work, St Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Pittsburgh sports, hunting, cigars and hot peppers. He was known for his infectious loyalty and embodied the true “Yinzer” spirit.
John was preceded in death by his Mother Victoria DeFabio and his Father Peter Mastascusa. He is survived by his wife Dolores, daughters Vickey and Laurie (husband Dan Conboy), son Marty (wife Kathy), cousin Dan Masta (wife Deanna), half-brothers Keith Miller, Mark Mastascusa and Tom Mastascusa and grandchildren Sean (wife Diane), Steven (wife Tiffany), Anthony, Katie, Logan, Mallory and Claire
A memorial service will be held at a future TBD date. In the mean-time our family encourages everyone to make the time to join with their family and enjoy a meal, glass of wine or a cigar to celebrate John’s life. In lieu of flowers, we’d also like you to consider a donation in John’s memory to St Jude’s Children’s Hospital, a local hospice organization or someone you know who may be in need.
