Joel E. Shaffer's Obituary
Joel E. Shaffer, age 64, of Finleyville, passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2024, surrounded by the love of his family. Joel was born on July 17, 1959, the son of the late John E. “Jack” and Eleanor (Yerger) Shaffer.
Joel grew up in Pleasant Hills and attended Thomas Jefferson High School where he enjoyed his time on the football team until his graduation in 1976. Following high school, Joel received a degree in commercial art and was a talented artist who could draw just about anything. Joel was a certified welder and fitter but more recently was practicing as a licensed respiratory therapist.
Joel married the love of his life, Kim, in 1988 and they enjoyed 42 wonderful years together. Together, they enjoyed yearly trips to Mexico alongside their friends. In his free time, Joel could be found fishing, riding his quads, or taking it easy admiring his koi pond. Joel adored his dogs, Flintstone, Fergus, Hercules, Mammie Girl, Pinkie and Bear.
Joel, or as his friends knew him “Schmed or Hosey”, had a wonderful sense of humor, a huge heart, and would always be there to lend a hand to anyone who needed it. He will be deeply missed by those who loved him.
Joel is survived by his loving wife, Kim Shaffer and his four-legged buddy, Flintstone. He also leaves behind family and many friends who became family.
