Jerry Paul Maxa's Obituary
Jerry P. Maxa, age 85, of Jefferson Hills, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 28, 2026, surrounded by the love of family. Born on June 19, 1941, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Jerry and Mary (Tirbles) Maxa.
Jerry was the beloved husband of 53 years to Alberta Maxa; the loving father of Christopher Maxa, Jeremy (Leigh) Maxa, and Maribeth (Randy) Fukas; and the cherished Grandpa of Marlow, Carter, Grant, Maxwell, and Henry. He also leaves his sister, Joan (Darryl) Housmen and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his brother, James (Susan) Maxa.
After graduating from Baltimore Polytechnic High School, Jerry pursued his passion for engineering at the University of Maryland, where he earned his bachelor's degree. He proudly served our country in the United States Army, stationed at Fort Holabird, Maryland. Following his military service, Jerry moved to Pittsburgh and enjoyed a distinguished 38-year career as an engineer with Bettis Atomic Powerplant, where his intelligence and interest helped him thrive.
After their marriage in 1972 at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, Jerry and Alberta remained faithful parishioners in the parish. He actively volunteered with the Cloverleaf Food Bank and was involved with the Christian Men's Fellowship and the Knights of Columbus.
Jerry had a passion for bowling, golfing and tending to his garden. Alongside his wife, he enjoyed traveling, exploring all corners of the globe. He had an insatiable curiosity that drove him to a lifetime of learning and discovery.
He was a devoted Christian and nurtured a close-knit family bond. Jerry will be remembered as a dedicated and loving husband, father and grandfather.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for visitation on Thursday, July 2, 2026, from 2:00 - 4:00 pm and 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15236. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, July 3, 2026, at St, Elizabeth of Hungary Church, 1 Grove Pl, Pittsburgh, PA 15236. Burial with military honors to follow at Jefferson Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations in honor of Jerry may be made to the Cloverleaf Food Bank, 2 Grove Pl, Pittsburgh, PA 15236.
