Jerome Charles Crist, Jr.'s Obituary
Jerome C. "Chirpy" Crist Jr., a beloved father, veteran, and cherished member of the Pittsburgh community, passed away on December 16, 2025, at the age of 95 after a long and happy life.
Born on August 2, 1930, in Pittsburgh, PA, Jerome lived a life dedicated to service, family, and faith. While his given name was Jerome you may have known him by one of his many nicknames such as: Chirpy, Jerry, Sep, Poppy or Fancy.
Jerome was raised in the Carrick neighborhood of Pittsburgh. In his early years he found his strength as a swimmer. After high school his athleticism served him in the Air Force, where he served his country with honor during the Korean war and went on to be a member of the American Legion. He spent 40 years of his life as a letter carrier and a school bus driver for the Thomas Jefferson School District. When he wasn't delivering the mail or bringing children safely to and from school, he found joy in the simple things such as watching the Pirates or the Steelers play and spending time with family.
A devoted member of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, Jerome's faith guided him throughout his life. He was always willing to offer a prayer or a blessing to those who needed it.
Jerome is survived by his children, Jerome Crist III, Terrence Crist (Peggy), Kathleen Scanlon (William), and Colleen Crist; grandchildren, Patrick (Neha), Erin (Brandon), Ryan, Dana, Ty, and Cassidy; great-grandchildren Priya and Mila. He will also be remembered by his extended family and the community he served.
He is preceded in death by his parents Jerome and Nellie Crist, and siblings John Crist and Virginia Moury. He goes on to be reunited with his loving spouse of 52 years Donna Crist, where she can once again show him the way.
