Jeanne E. Washburn's Obituary
On February 10th our matriarch, Jeanne Washburn, went on to God’s glory.
The passing of Jeanne Washburn has caused great sadness and heavy hearts. She was a prayerful woman and the loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and good friend to many.
Jeanne was the mother to three children; Anthony (Linda) who lives in Pittsburgh, Debbie ( and the late Ron Simoni) of Livermore, California, and Mary (deceased). She was the grandmother of Anthony (Jessica) of Santa Cruz, California; Alexandra (Byron) of Lake Como, Italy, Dina (Ruben) of Pleasanton, California; Andrew (Lara) of San Francisco, California. She is also survived by seven beautiful great grandchildren; Josie Cruz, Chloe, Charlotte, Nathan, Santino, George, and Catherine.
She is preceded in death by her dear husband, Charles O. Charlie was also one of a kind and a true gentleman.
Jeanne was born on the northside of Pittsburgh in 1926 to Jane and Joseph Rossi. Joseph and Jane were part of the great Italian migration to Pittsburgh. She is survived by three beautiful sisters; Angeline and Rosemarie of Pittsburgh, and Josephine of Richmond, Virginia. Jeanne was a very spirited, passionate and accomplished woman. She was an Arthur Murray dancer, a singer and a buyer for Saks Fifth Avenue. On the weekends, she loved to teach her kids to Rumba, Cha Cha and Salsa……She also loved to sing Sarah Vaughn and Mahalia Jackson songs. Also, she would entertain with Italian folk and love songs along with songs by band leader Luie Prima, the whole family with her father Joseph, who was a guitar and mandolin player, every Sunday at dinner. She also was the owner of Twills and Tweeds, a high fashion women’s store. She attended the University of Pittsburgh.
Later in life, she considered herself an amateur stock picker and thought she would have loved to be Suzie Orman. She also loved to give her family tax advice as well as personal love advice. This continued up to the time of death and included the caregivers at her assisted living facility. She often got involved with wanting to give her children stock advice, and managed accounts successfully for her nieces, who she loved very much.
Jeanne will be laid to rest on Monday in a private family ceremony. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Magee Women’s Research Institute, 204 Craft Avenue, Pittsburgh, Pa 15213. Condolences may be shared at www.jeffersonmemorial.biz
