Janice Elaine Foulke's Obituary
Janice Elaine (Cheatham) Foulke, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2023, after a long and courageous battle with dementia. Born on April 10, 1937, in Beloit, Kansas, Janice was a beacon of joy, patience, and love, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew her.
Janice was the cherished daughter of the late C. Harold and Helen Cheatham. She was the loving sister of the late Larry Cheatham and Loyce LeMay, and the treasured sister-in-law of Irl Deane Cheatham. Janice was the devoted wife of the late Larry Foulke, with whom she shared a beautiful life after their marriage on January 31, 1960.
Janice was the proud and fun-loving mother of Andy (Mandy) Foulke, Rikke (Page Thomas) Foulke, and Larra Omenetto. She was predeceased by her daughter, Laura Foulke. Janice was also the supportive and cheerful grandmother of Nico Omenetto, Stella Omenetto, Asa Foulke, Ailsa Foulke, and Atiya Foulke. Her family was her pride and joy, and she nurtured them with love, patience, and good humor.
Janice was a graduate of Beloit High School. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from Kansas State University where she met her husband. She and Larry were often heard enthusiastically singing their alma mater’s anthems together. While living in Norway where her husband was a Fulbright Scholar, Janice developed an appreciation for the Norwegian language and frequently offered greetings such as, “Takk for sist,” and “Had forsikti.” During Larry’s postgraduate years, she worked diligently as an office assistant, demonstrating her unwavering support and dedication to her family. After this period, she devoted herself to raising her family, creating a warm and nurturing home environment that was a testament of her love for them.
Janice had a deep appreciation for music, particularly the French horn and piano, which she enjoyed in her younger years. Her love for music was infectious, and she often filled her home with beautiful melodies that brought joy to all who heard them. In addition to her musical pursuits, Janice was an avid quilter and seamstress, creating beautiful pieces that reflected her creativity and attention to detail.
Janice was also a skilled cook, delighting her family and friends with delicious meals that were a testament to her culinary prowess. She was a gracious host, often opening her home to her children’s friends, neighbors, colleagues, and AFS foreign students, providing all with a warm and welcoming environment during their stay.
Janice was an active member of her community, serving as a former President of the Pleasant Hills Women's Club. She was also a dedicated member of the Pleasant Hills Presbyterian Church bell choir, where her musical talents were a valuable contribution. Her involvement in these organizations reflected her commitment to service and her desire to make a positive impact on her community.
Janice was known for her joyful spirit and mischievous sense of humor, which brought laughter and happiness to those around her. She was a patient and loving individual, always ready to lend a listening ear or offer words of encouragement. Her kindness, generosity of spirit, and playfulness will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Family and friends will be received for memorial visitation on Saturday, November 4, 2023 from 12 noon - 4 pm at the Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh, 15236. A memorial service will take place following visitation at 4 pm in the funeral home's chapel.
