James D. Story's Obituary
James D. Story, a gentle giant and beloved family man, dedicated worker, and passionate sports fan, passed away on September 24, 2023. Born on November 15, 1945, in Pittsburgh, PA, James was the son of the late Don P. Jr. and LaRue Story. He was a cherished brother, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories.
James was the husband to the late Evelyn Story, brother to Michele Story Moehring, Don P. III (Jackie) Story, Suzanne (the late David A.) Yount, Renee (Jeffrey) Schumacher, Yolande (Raymond III) Gensler, Charles (Lisa) Story, and Mignonne (Joe) Couturier. He was a loving step-father to Beth (Alan), Janine, and Jimmy (Kelly), and a doting grandfather to five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. His large family also includes many nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss him dearly.
James was a hardworking individual who dedicated many years of his life to Kane Hospital as the head housekeeper. It was here that he met his wife, and together they built a beautiful life filled with love and mutual respect. His colleagues remember him as a diligent worker, always ready with a smile and a helping hand.
A proud veteran, James served in the Vietnam War as a member of the Army. His service to his country was a testament to his courage and commitment, qualities that he carried throughout his life. His experiences in the Army shaped him into the resilient and strong-willed man that his family and friends knew and admired.
James was a die-hard Pittsburgh sports fan, his enthusiasm for his hometown teams was infectious. He was a regular at games, cheering on his favorite teams with a fervor that was both endearing and, at times, hilariously over the top. His love for sports was only matched by his love for his morning routine. The highlights of his week was exercising and having breakfast with his buddies. These moments of camaraderie and friendly banter were a source of joy and fulfillment for James.
Family and friends will be received on Thursday, September 28, 2023 from 2 pm - 4 pm and 6 pm - 8 pm at the Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh, 15236. A funeral service will take place Friday, September 29 at 10 am in the funeral home's chapel.
