James D. Simpson's Obituary
James D. “Jim” Simpson, age 82, of Upper St. Clair passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on May 15, 2024. Husband of 61 years to Sandra (Sandy). Father of Laura (William) Harrison and James D. Simpson, III, deceased. “Pap” to Dalton Harrison and Eliza Harrison. Brother to Matt (Cora) Simpson, Thomas Mees, Barbara Jean (Michael) Carpenter and Paul (Tisa) Mees.
Jim was a lifelong resident of Pittsburgh and a Steeler season ticket holder since Three Rivers Stadium opened, but his true passion was baseball, always following the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was a pitcher in high school and college. Jim earned a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Muhlenburg College in Allentown, PA. He met Sandy at Bethany Lutheran Church in Bethel Park in 1961 where she asked him to go to the stock car races. He later became a Nascar fan. They married in 1963 and Jim graduated from Muhlenberg in 1964 and they settled in Pittsburgh where they raised 2 children, Laura and Jimmy. Jim came from a modest background and after college worked in banking becoming a Vice President at Concord Liberty Savings & Loan where he worked for many years. He began to invest in real estate, establishing S-2 Properties in Pittsburgh and acquiring rental properties in the surrounding areas. Jim had a green thumb and loved gardening. He also enjoyed spending time at their beach home in Ponce Inlet, FL, watching politics and loved to read. He most enjoyed family dinner outings and spending time with his grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Sunday, May 19, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15236. Funeral service will also be held at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home chapel on Monday, May 20, 2024, at noon. Donations may be made on his behalf to Wounded Warrior Foundation.
