James P. Murphy's Obituary
Age 95, of Pittsburgh, passed away surrounded by his loving family on March 22, 2017. He was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on February 20, 1922, to James and Mary Murphy.
James is survived by his beloved Wife of 75 years, Elizabeth Francis Murphy. Loving father of Donald James (Karen) Murphy; granddaughter, April D. Murphy; great-grandchildren, Vivian May Tofias, William and Elsie Carter; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, James P. Murphy, Sr.; mother, Mary Barbara (Neidermeyer) Murphy; brother, John Murphy and sister, Patricia Stepanovich.
James was very involved in Hockey. He was a Coach for BPHS Hockey and was a past President of Pittsburgh Amateur Hockey League. In lieu of flowers donation may be made to Autism Society of America at www.autism-society.org in James' honor. James was a Aviation Machinist First Class while serving in the US Navy during WWII on the USS Essex. He taught a Citizenship Preparation Curriculum for the Pittsburgh Public Schools. He also taught for many years at Banksville Elementary and Lee Elementary Schools in addition to having participated in the pioneering of the city's driver education program.
Friends will be received Thursday from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm at the Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 301 Curry Hollow Rd, Pittsburgh Pa 15236. A Blessing Service will be held in the funeral home's chapel on Friday at 11 am. Condolences may be left at www.jeffersonmemorial.biz
