James Edward Boyd's Obituary
James (Jim) Boyd passed away peacefully in his sleep due to complications of pneumonia and stroke on the morning of January 16, 2025. He is the son of Gene and Lola Boyd. He is survived by his wife of 19 years Barbara Boyd, stepdaughter Nikki Stark, son Jim Boyd (Jodie), daughters Jenny Perry and Sandra Sutphin. Grandchildren: Elora (Colton), Breanna, Maura, Jimmy, Sean, Mathew, Candy (Tiffany), and Khari. Great grandchildren: Anthony, Amber and Nazareth.
Jim was born in Longview Washington and grew up in Potlatch, Idaho. As a young man, he began working in the lumber industry grading lumber. He soon discovered he had an aptitude for figures and the biological sciences. He began his quest for higher education at the University of Idaho earning his bachelor's degree. He continued to expand his higher education culminating in a PHD in Zoology in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
During the majority of his career, he worked as a research scientist. He worked of the study of the eye and contributed to the discovery of visco elastic solution instrumental in cataract surgery. He worked for Johnson and Johnson as well as several other health related corporations. His career spanned the United States starting in the Pacific Northwest and ending on the East coast.
Upon his retirement, he settled in Pittsburgh and worked as a school bus driver for 12 years.
He was an avid square dancer, runner and bowler.
He was a devout Christian and was a deacon in his church Jefferson Hills Bible Church.
He was a hard worker and was a compassionate human being. Everyone that knew him loved him.
