Jack Michael Hartnell's Obituary
Jack M. Hartnell, a revered family man and esteemed professional, passed away on December 3, 2023, at the age of 81. Born on September 18, 1942, Jack's journey was marked by a steadfast commitment to his family, a passion for education, and a successful career that touched the lives of many.
Jack's legacy is carried on by his loving wife, Bonnie L Hartnell, with whom he shared a life full of love and mutual support. He was a guiding light to his children, Jack S. Hartnell (Cindy Sherrill) and Jill Whetstone (Alan Whetstone). His joy was multiplied by the birth of his grandsons, Cameron and Theodore Whetstone. Jack was preceded in death by his parents Jack William and Louise Hartnell, and his brother Jeffry Hartnell, all of whom had a profound influence on his life.
An alumnus of Michigan State University, Jack earned his degree in Business and Psychology in 1964 and was a proud member of Alpha Sigma Phi. His professional journey began at Proctor & Gamble, where he served as a Sales/Marketing manager from 1964-1981. His entrepreneurial spirit shone brightly when he became a financial planner in 1981, and in 1988 he took a bold step to start his own financial planning business, Professional Planning Consultant Services. Jack dedicated himself to this venture until his final days, leaving a legacy of integrity and excellence in the financial planning industry. Jack's influence and guidance were invaluable to his clients and colleagues.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Jack was a man of diverse interests. He found solace in woodworking and model ship building, took pride in having a shiny car, and relished the challenge of a good golf game. His happiest moments were often found with Bonnie while walking the beach on Hilton Head Island or during their many travels. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and he co-founded the Blue Blazer Club (BBC), where his leadership and camaraderie were cherished.
Jack touched many lives through his work, his passions, and his unwavering commitment to his family and friends. His memory will be treasured, and his presence sorely missed, but the impact of his life's work will continue to resonate in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
As we bid farewell to Jack, we celebrate a life well-lived -- a life filled with purpose, joy, and an enduring legacy that will continue to inspire generations to come.
