Irene Gatto's Obituary
Irene Gatto age 96, of West Mifflin, PA passed away on January 27th, surrounded by loving family. Irene was the wife of the late Vincent A. Gatto, and daughter of the late John and Suzanne Gretz.
She received an undergraduate degree from the University of Pittsburgh and master’s degrees from both Duquesne and Penn State Universities. Irene was a retired English teacher with over 20 years of service for the West Mifflin School District. She was a voracious reader, with her favorite genre being Victorian mysteries, as well as a great love of the Harry Potter novel series. She also enjoyed traveling (especially with her best friend Haddie), theatre and gardening. As a matter of fact, Irene and Haddie travelled together to New York City many times, where they always attended Broadway Plays. She was a member of Valley Voices and The Garden Club of Munhall. Her vibrant spirit would brighten up everyone around her. She loved to share her lifetime stories and adventures. She was a friend to all who knew her. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and dear friend. Her kindhearted presence will be missed by all who knew her.
Survived by her are Children, James Gatto (Kim), Dr. Blaise Gatto (Kimberly). Grandsons, Vincent, Ryan, Quentin (Jaira Burns), great granddaughter Harper and many other relatives and friends.
In addition to her late husband and parents, Irene is preceded in death by her brothers Joe & John, and sister Mary.
Friends will be received on Saturday, February 5th from 11 A.M. until 2 P.M. when a Blessing Service will be held in the Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15236. Entombment will take place at Jefferson Memorial Park.
