Reverend Ilona Komjathy's Obituary
Reverend Ilona Komjathy was born and raised in Garfield, New Jersey to Joseph and Helen Molnar. As a second generation Hungarian-American, she grew up as part of the Hungarian Reformed Church in Passaic, NJ, where she was an organist from the age of fourteen.
She attended Houghton College, where she majored in History and minored in music. She also earned her New York State Teacher certification and was a teacher and librarian. She married Rev. Dr. Aladar Komjathy and moved to Montreal, Canada, where she was the organist and Choir Director for over 20 years at the Hungarian United Church in Montreal.
Following the death of her husband, she attended Pittsburgh Theological Seminary where she earned a Masters of Divinity. She faithfully served as minister of the First Hungarian Reformed Church of Pittsburgh for twenty five years.
Ilona was preceded in death by her husband the late Rev. Dr. Aladar Komjathy. She is survived by her son Dr. Steven Komjathy, daughter Victoria Komjathy and son-in-law Larry, her stepson, Aladar Komjathy and wife Wendy, her beloved granddaughter, Sarah Beckage and nieces Sarton Molnar-Fenton and Anjelica Molnar-Fenton and her husband Giles.
Friends and family will be received from 10am-11am on Monday, March 9, 2026 at the First Hungarian Reformed Church of Pittsburgh, 221 Johnston Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15207.
A funeral service will be held at 11am following visitation.
Burial will be handled by the Homewood Cemetery, 1599 S Dallas Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15217.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Hungarian Reformed Church of Pittsburgh, 221 Johnston Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15207.
