Hugh W. Given's Obituary
Hugh W. Given, a respected member of the community, loving family man, and dedicated church servant, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2023. Born on November 30, 1932, Hugh lived a life full of service, commitment, and love for his family and community.
Hugh was a proud graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, where he earned his Bachelors Degree. He was also awarded with his CPA certification. His education paved the way for a successful career as a controller for National Steel. Prior to his corporate career, Hugh served his country honorably in the Army for two years, a testament to his dedication and commitment to service. His spirit of service was further exemplified by his achievement as an Eagle Scout, a distinction that speaks to his character, leadership, and community involvement.
Hugh was a man of deep faith and was extremely active in the John McMillan Presbyterian Church. His roles ranged from Superintendent for Sunday School to Elder, and he was instrumental in the Vacation Bible School and preschool programs. His dedication to his faith community was unwavering, and his impact will be felt for generations to come.
Family was at the heart of Hugh's life. He is survived by his loving wife, Ella May Given, and their children, Curt (Lisa) Given and Janice (Earl) Frischkorn. He was predeceased by his daughter, Karen Given. Hugh was a proud grandfather to Kayla (Steve) Krystek, Kristen (Evan) Climpson, Joel Given, Rebecca Frischkorn, and Cat Frischkorn. He also had the joy of being a great-grandfather to Levi, Isaac, and Nathan Climpson. Hugh was the son of the late Alice Walton. His love for his family was evident in every aspect of his life, and his legacy will live on through them.
Hugh was a man of integrity, faith and family. He was very generous with his time and resources and took great joy in serving others, especially his church. He will be remembered for his deep love for his family and the delight he took in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him. His legacy will live on as we love and serve others like Hugh did.
There will be a public visitation with the family at John McMillan Presbyterian Church, 875 Clifton Road, Bethel Park, PA 15102 from 9:30 to 11:00am on Saturday, December 2nd followed by a memorial service at 11:00am. There will be a lunch reception at the church following the service.
