Mrs Lawrence -“Larry” to me and the young nurses assigned along with me to 4Shaw back in 1972-was my hero. I had just graduated from McKeesport Hospital School of Nursing and was hired by the hospital and assigned to 4Shaw, along with several other new grads. Larry was the Assistant Head Nurse, and she took us all under her wings from day one! She taught us, sheltered us, defended us, protected us, and loved on us. Memories of her beautiful smile, kind heart, sweet spirit have stayed with me through all these years. She was one of the most gracious ladies I have ever met and a more compassionate nurse you will never find. Several of us thought she reminded us of “Mrs Beasley” and one year, we bought her a Mrs Beasley doll!!! How we laughed together!! I can honestly say I may not have become the nurse -or person- that I am had it not been for her influence in my young life. Larry, even though our paths only crossed for a short period of time, you were one of those people I always remembered with great love and fondness. I know your rewards in heaven are great. And I’m looking forward to seeing you again there in heaven someday.
