Harry Stephen Brooks, Jr.'s Obituary
Harry S. Brooks Jr., 94, of Pittsburgh, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2026.
Harry was born here in Pittsburgh to parents Harry and Florence Brooks. He grew up in the South Side neighborhood, attending South High. After high school, he studied at the Japanese Imperial Military Academy of Engineering and Triangle School of Drafting. He served in the United States Army During the Korean War. He married Marie Ellen Brooks on September 29, 1956.
Intellectually curious, with eclectic tastes, Harry loved everything from Sherlock Holmes, classic films, and cowboys to jazz and bird watching. He was always up for ice cream and exploring all kinds of cheese. (Some might even call him a cheese aficionado.) He would light up while sharing his hand drawn cartoons and missed his days playing basketball more than anything.
Above all he was dedicated to his family. Harry was a beloved husband of nearly 70 years to Marie Ellen Brooks; a doting father to his children Sandy and Glenn (Amy) Brooks; a cherished Pap Pap to Allie, Ray, Maddie, Lindsay and Haley; and great-grandfather to Scott Harry.
Harry is preceded in death by his parents Harry and Florence Brooks and siblings Elizabeth (Bill), and Al (Pat).
Harry's loyalty, dependability and absolutely hilarious sense of humor will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
A blessing service will be held at 11:00am Friday May 15, 2026 at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home 301 Curry Hollow Rd. Pittsburgh PA 15236. All are welcome to attend.
Memorial contributions are encouraged to be made to the Whitehall Public Library. https://whitehallpubliclibrary.org/
