I am very sorry to hear about Glema’s passing. She was a wonderful colleague and friend to me during our time together at Pitt. She truly was the heart and soul of UCIS, and a lot of what I learned as an administrator I owe to her. Over the years, I have often missed her common sense and compassionate approach to solving problems. I am grateful for having known and worked with her.
Wolfgang Schlör, Associate Provost for International Initiatives, Georgia State University.
I was so sorry to hear about Glema. We often were on committees together when she worked for UCIS at the University of Pittsburgh. She was such a warm, classy lady as well as an outstandingl administrator. I was sad when she retired and now even sadder that such a wonderful person has passed away.
Such a wonderful woman and an amazing MOPS mentor. I will always remember the stories she shared with us and how she made me want to be a better Mother and a better person.
Glema was not only an excellent administrator but a fine human being always ready to help with any problem one had, As former Director of the Center of Latin American Studies at Pitt I am grateful for her life of service to the international programas at Pitt and to CLAS in particular. Her family must be proud of her. Carmelo Mesa-Lago, Distinguished Service Professor of Economics and Latin American Studies, Pitt
It is with great sorrow that I have heard of the news of Glema's passing. Glema herself probably would not have remembered this, but years and years ago I was a GSA at UCIS, pregnant with my first child, and sometimes struggled to make ends meet from pay check to pay check. Glema would always ask how I was doing and once I mentioned that it would be tricky to get to the end of the month. The next day she had advanced my stipend so I could buy groceries. My daughter is now 32 and I have worked full time at UCIS for over 20 years, but Glema's kindness and thoughtfulness never left me. I had the honor of working with her for many years and she always lead with grace and goodness. Such a loss for your family. My prayers are with the Burke family. In gratitude for having known her, Michele Ferrier Heryford
It was with sadness that I ran across Glema's obituary on Facebook. I have such special memories of her as she was a terrific friend to my mother, Anna Miller.
Sending prayers and comfort to all of her family and friends!

My loving sister, Glema - Growing up, you were always my mentor, someone I could admire and emulate . I have always known you would be there for me when needed. I will remember the fun we had, especially on some of our trips, and how some in our family started referring to us as \"Thelma and Louise.\" Remembering how we laughed until we cried about some caper that one of us pulled. You were taken too soon, and my heart aches for your children, grandchildren and best friends. You will be missed by so many. I am comforted knowing that you are at peace on your new journey. Loving sister, Jeanne
I will always remember her hospitality for Ligonier Days...it was so much fun, she welcomed everyone. She was a very special person, the brightest smile and warm personality...I will miss her very much!
