Gerry Karcher's Obituary
Gerry Karcher, age 88, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2025, with her family close by. Gerry is survived by her husband of 68 years Robert Karcher. Their 3 children Julie (Ron) Notarius, Kathy (Tom) Hannon and Rob (Heidi) Karcher. Their 7 grandchildren, Paul (Nicole) Klein, Drake (Bethany) Hannon, Jessie Notarius, Haleigh Karcher, Kacie Karcher, Holly Hannon & Cody Karcher. And their 4 great grandchildren, Paul and Sydney Klein and Teddy and Penny Hannon.
Gerry is preceded in death by her parents Albert and Catherine Morrone, her brother Albert Morrone and her sister Cathy Motznick. Gerry is also survived by her two sisters Dorothy Straka and Susan Armstrong.
Besides her family, one of Gerry's greatest achievements was beginning college at the age of 41 and completing her master's degree in social work at the age of 50. Gerry went on to work for the next 32 years as a social worker at Saint Clair Hospital and Jefferson Hospital.
Gerry was a member of St. Elizabeth parish for nearly 70 years. She was very active in the church as the creator and chairperson of the church festival Spring-A-Rama for over 25 years. She taught 7th grade CCD, was a member of the Elda Guild and was a greeter before mass.
Gerry and Bob loved to travel visiting places like Italy, Germany, England, Ireland, Paris and Hawaii to name a few. They also played in several bridge fights and enjoyed going out to eat several times a week.
Gerry will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She will be laid out on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, from 6:00 -8:00 pm and on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, from 3:00 -8:00 pm. at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15236. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Triumph of the Holy Cross Parish, St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, 1 Grove Pl, Pittsburgh, PA 15236. Burial will be held privately.
