Geraldine "Gerrie" Helena (Handza) Harrison's Obituary
On October 3, 2016, Gerrie passed from the arms of love to the arms of God. Born December 18, 1926; age 89. Pre-deceased by our Dad James Harrison, parents Agnes Mary (Dranga) and John Alexander Handza, and all siblings (Alice, Albert, Margaret, John, Mildred, Janice, and Cirel). Worked as a secretary, became a homemaker, and later used her bookkeeping and writing skills in the family business. Gerrie had a sharp wit and great sense of humor; she loved to sing and dance; enjoyed books and movies, and her sense of style was unmatched. She firmly believed that coffee with dessert was a daily ritual that should never be missed. A resident of Whitehall, PA, Gerrie raised her family in West Mifflin, PA. In our hearts, on our minds, always there, always loved by son Gordon Harrison (spouse Jeannie); daughter Kimberly Harrison (spouse Vince Barlett); and son James Harrison (spouse Nanette). Five grandchildren/Three great-grandchildren: Jill Harmon (spouse Terry/Katherine and Tyler); Eric Harrison (spouse Shawna/Aidan); Nicole Barlett; and Jessie Harrison and James Harrison. Gerrie enjoyed the love and laughter of her gal pals Suzie B., Alvera, and her nurse Michelle. Our Mum, the Energizer Bunny, courageously battled cancer throughout her life and held on to be present for many family milestones. She leaves us with a legacy of love, joyful wonderment of Mother Nature’s beauty, and a life-affirming example of courage and perseverance. A celebration of Gerrie’s life will be held on October 10, 2016, at 10:30 AM at the JEFFERSON MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, INC., 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh, 15236. Interment to follow at Jefferson Memorial Park. Please join the family at Atria’s, Bill Green’s Shopping Center, 10 Old Clairton Road; Pleasant Hills. To honor Gerrie’s memory, hug family and friends tightly, extend a hand to someone in need, and occasionally eat dessert first.
