George E. Lion's Obituary
George E. Lion, 73, of Pittsburgh, passed away on Thursday, March 30, 2023, in the comfort of his own home with his beloved wife by his side. George was born on August 4, 1949, the loving son to the late George and Monica Lion.
George received his Bachelor’s Degree in education from Duquesne University and went on to further his education at the University of Pittsburgh where he received his Master’s Degree in education. He enjoyed a long career as a mathematics teacher beginning at Oakland High School and later at Quigley High School where he served as the Vice Principal prior to retirement.
George and his wife enjoyed scuba diving in the Caribbean, zip lining, and biking. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed bowling in his spare time.
His family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of The Bridges Hospice for their excellent care and compassion.
George is survived by his wife of 32 years, Chris (Gecan) Lion; his sister, Susan (Dan McGaffin) Danfelt; many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews, including his #1 nephew, Lucius Steimer; and his beloved four-legged companion, Mattie. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Patricia Lion.
Services have been entrusted to Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home and will be held privately. A memorial service celebrating his life will be planned in the near future. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in honor of George may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 3 International Drive, Suite 200, Rye Brook, NY 10573.
