George E. Behary's Obituary
George E. Behary, age 95, formerly of Beechview, passed away on Thursday, December 5, 2024, in Bethel Park.
George is survived by his sister, Theresa Capatolla, his brother-in-law, Daniel Capatolla, and his longtime companion, Jeanne Reddington.
Uncle George, also known as UG, GUG, and Uncle GEO was cherished and loved and will be greatly missed by his 16 nieces and nephews and their spouses, and too many great and great-great nieces and nephews to count.
George is preceded in death by his father George Behary, his mother Mary (Lucas) Behary, his sisters, Christine Florian and Sister Mary Ann Behary -Vincentian Sisters of Charity, and his brother-in-law, Ronald Florian.
George proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War and was discharged with the rank of corporal. He graduated from Saint Vincent College where he was a member of the 1949 football team that won the Tangering Bowl. He went on to enjoy a long career with LTV Steel as a steel mill worker.
In his free time, George found his greatest joys came from being outdoors whether he was fishing, hunting or canoeing. He especially enjoyed building huge campfires. George was a faithful friend of Bill W for 49 years.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for visitation on Thursday, December 12, 2024 from 3:00 - 7:00 pm at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15236. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, December 13, 2024 at 11:00 am at St. Catherine of Siena Church-St Teresa of Kolkata Parish, 1810 Belasco Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15216. Burial will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in honor of George may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 2835 E Carson St Suite 200, Pittsburgh, PA 15203.
