George Lawrence Bedeian's Obituary
George Lawrence Bedeian was born on January 31, 1949 to Alexander and Annaied Bedeian in Ambridge, PA. At the time of his death on December 25, 2023 he was 74 years old.
George graduated from North Catholic High School in 1968. He received his bachelors of arts and masters degree from the University of Pittsburgh and worked towards his PhD in American History with specialty in African American history.
He was a voracious reader and well known for his encyclopedic memory and fascination for details. Most of this was directed towards his great passion in life which was music. He traveled throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico but never missed a chance to find music wherever he traveled.
As many may know, he was an avid collector of music, his favorite genres being Jazz and Soul. Attending concerts was his favorite pastime and we did every chance we got. His favorite stomping grounds was New York City though, where he would buy all the albums he could carry and go to every jazz club in the city. In our neighborhood, every music lover knows him for his pop up record sales and lively music conversation. He had a large following for his events.
George had a booming voice that could fill several rooms when he wasn't filling them with music. He was loving and devoted husband and father whose warmth and love will be deeply missed. George and Ruth (Sissy) were married for 43 years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Alexander and Annaied, his brothers John and Joseph Bedeian, his brother-in-laws Laurence and Alan McDonald. He is survived by his wife Ruth Bedeian, his daughter Alexis McDonald, his son Jordan Bedeian, sister-in-law Sharon Gilbert, son-in-law Ralph McDonald, grandson Christian McDonald ,sister Irene Bedeian, and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family wished to extend heartfelt gratitude to all who took the time to console us and lift our hearts at this difficult time. We will always remember your kindness.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2023 at 2 pm at the Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh, 15236.
