Gary J. Stock's Obituary
Gary J. Stock, passed away on January 15, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on March 31, 1954, in Pittsburgh, he was a true native son to the city, and it was in Pittsburgh that he drew his last breath, surrounded by the love of his family.
Gary's life was one of dedication and hard work. He was a graduate of Baldwin High School, where he laid the foundation for what would become a lifelong career in construction. With a particular specialization in concrete, Gary was not only the owner of Stock Concrete but also the pillar that many in the community leaned on for support. His hands shaped more than just structures; they built a legacy of integrity and quality that will stand the test of time.
Outside of his professional life, Gary was an avid outdoorsman. He found peace and joy in fishing and hunting, pursuits that took him across the country and even into the wilds of Canada. Gary loved to cook, he was especially known for his soups and haluski. The beach was another sanctuary for him. On the golf course, Gary's spirit of competition and camaraderie shone brightly. And whether celebrating a successful day or simply enjoying the company of friends, he was rarely seen without his signature cigar and Jack & Coke in hand.
Gary was the epitome of the phrase "not shy, backward or bashful, even a little bit." His magnetic personality was a beacon that drew people to him, and his presence alone was enough to light up a room. Wise beyond his years, he was the man everyone turned to in times of need—the "go-to man in a jam." His advice was sought after, and his willingness to help was boundless. Gary was the kind of person who made a lasting impact on everyone he met, and his absence will be deeply felt by all.
Family was the cornerstone of Gary's life. He leaves behind a loving family that includes his former wife, Michelle Stock; his children: Gary (Brittany Alessandro) Stock, Shelby (Matthew Toney) Stock, Samantha (Randy) Kraus, and Mika Stock. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Isabella, Brody, Carter, Ian, and Harley, who will carry forward his wisdom, kindness, and loving nature.
Gary is survived by his siblings, Jackie (the late Edward) Gerdun; Christopher (Millie) Stock, and JoAnn Stock. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Rose Stock, as well as his siblings Robert Stock, MichaelAnn Stock, and Donna Stock; and after only a short time apart, he now joins his dog, Layla.
Those who knew Gary would agree that the words wise, kind, and loving best encapsulate who he was. His advice was always given from the heart, his kindness knew no bounds, and his love was unconditional.
Friends and family will be received on Sunday, January 21st from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15236.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 22nd at 11 A.M. at the Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home Chapel.
