Mr. Costa was the most important teacher my siblings and I had growing up. His love of learning was infectious and the way he challenged young students to think about issues above a 5th grade level was so impactful. Mr. Costa taught all four kids in our family and we each have such great and unique memories of our experiences in his classroom. Mr. Costa undoubtedly had this effect on most of the students he taught throughout his career and in doing so definitely had a positive impact on on our community. We are grateful to have sat in his classroom. We send our condolences to Mrs. Costa and the rest of his family.

I am not one to remember things, especially not good at pin pointing when they happened. But Mr. Costa Paynter 5th grade was my most memorable school year to this day. Introducing Gary Paulsen, Jack London, Robert Frost, Rocket lessons, not only building and launching, but finding angles to determin height, all his model rocket and his lessons on space, NASA, and rocket history. That long ago it is tough to remember every detail, but I distinctly remember how I felt. Mr. Costa demanded your best and I had such pride when I earned his praise. I felt included and engaged. I did not particularly like school until I experienced Mr. Costa. He connected with people better than most, and his goodwill, that lives on through the people he connected with, is larger than most.

My Heartfelt Sympathy to you Linda & your family ๐ May GOD provide you with the Comfort & Strength needed during this very difficult time of Loss ๐
So sad to hear that my good friend has passed. Gary and I taught together over many years but the most memorable time was as I began teaching at Spitler Elementary in 1973. Gary was so helpful and supportive , and always interesting to talk to . We both loved science, and Gary was the expert! I would often ask for some advice on science lessons and even enjoyed visiting his class when he taught some interesting topics! I joined him during the rocketry unit and the kids really were always excited to learn in his class! Gary, your friendship was so much appreciated! Prayers to your family and to you Linda,Stephanie and Greg as I know this is such a difficult loss!
