Florence B. Burns' Obituary
Florence B. Burns, 93, died peacefully in South Pymatuning Township, Sharpsville, PA on Sunday (December 29, 2019) where she was residing with her daughter and family for the past year. Formerly she lived her entire life in the South Hills area of Pittsburgh. She was born May 19, 1926 to Henry and Elizabeth (Brindle) Enders on Timberland Avenue in what was known then as West Liberty Boro, Pittsburgh, PA.
She is predeceased by her husband Philip N. Burns to whom she was married on September 30, 1947 at the Church of the Advent in Pittsburgh, PA. They celebrated their 50th anniversary in 1997 just months before Phil’s passing on December 10, 1997.
Florence graduated from Dormont High School and did clerical work until the birth of her first child, then took time to be a homemaker. After raising her children, she was employed as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant for many years and retired from Asbury Heights in 1993. She lived a very active life belonging to many groups and was a member of AARP for more than thirty years. She had an eye for beauty and was an amazing home decorator and dressed in style. Florence loved cultural events and attended the Pittsburgh Public Theater as a season subscriber since their beginning in the North Side. She also enjoyed the symphony, ballet, music concerts, dances and going to the movies. Flo also took pride in the 20 medals she earned while competing for a few years at the Senior Games.
Florence lived her later years at Baptist Homes in both the independent apartments and Personal Care always being treated with kindness and respect.
Florence is survived by her children; Donna J. Stamoolis (Evangelos ‘Angelo’) of Sharpsville, PA, Kenneth P. Burns of Rennerdale Township, Carnegie, PA; grandchildren Damon P. Stamoolis (Stephanie) of Port Angeles, WA, Christina M. Stamoolis of Sharpsville, PA, Jason K. Burns of Carnegie, PA, Jessica R. Hoppa (Jason) of McKees Rocks, PA; great grandchildren Taylor and Sloan Hoppa and Kosta Stamoolis.
Also surviving is her sister Henrietta ‘Rita’ Zaccaria (Angelo) of Castle Shannon, Pittsburgh, PA, and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
The family thanks the Allegheny Health Hospice team who helped us through a difficult year of care. Your love and compassion for your work are truly appreciated.
Besides her parents and husband, Florence is predeceased in death by her sister Thelma Scarff and brother Robert H. Enders.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Baptist Homes Foundation Samaritan Fund or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Visitation hours will be held from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm - 8:00pm on Friday, January 3rd, 2020 at the Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home. 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh PA 15236. A Blessing Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 4th 2020 in the Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with The Rev. Dr. Adam Trambley of St. John's Episcopal Church, Sharon, PA.
