Evon Irish, age 78, of West Mifflin, Pennsylvania, entered eternal rest peacefully on April 1, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family and embraced by the grace of God.
Born in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania, Evon, affectionately known as "Miss Evon," lived a life that was both remarkable and deeply inspiring. She was a devoted wife, cherished mother, beloved grandmother, faithful friend, and a godly woman, whose life reflected grace, wisdom, and unwavering love. To know Miss Evon was to know kindness, strength, and dignity. Her presence was unforgettable, and her memory will forever remain a blessing to all whose lives she touched.
Evon was a woman of profound wisdom and discernment. She possessed a gifted mind and a gentle spirit, often offering words of comfort, guidance, and truth to those who sought her counsel. Her wisdom was a light for her family and a source of strength for many, and the lessons she shared will continue to live on through the generations she so lovingly nurtured.
A faithful and godly woman, Evon walked in compassion, generosity, and service. Her faith was evident not only in her words but in the way she lived each day-with humility, grace, and a heart devoted to helping others. She gave generously to charities, ministries, and those in need, often donating funds and resources to uplift families and has been involved with the church and community. Her life was a testimony of love in action.
Evon had a special love for children. She delighted in their laughter and joy, and she never missed an opportunity to bless them with thoughtful gifts, clothing, treats, and loving encouragement. Her nurturing spirit made every child in her life feel cherished, protected, and deeply loved.
Her compassion and humor extended to family, neighbors, and friends as well. Evon was known for always being willing to help-whether through kind words, practical support, or simply being present in times of need. She was the kind of woman whose generosity and warmth made people feel at home.
Gifted with extraordinary creativity, Evon was also a talented and crafty woman who found joy in making and collecting beautiful things. She had a special passion for designing and creating jewelry, crafting pieces that reflected her elegance, artistry, and refined taste. She also had a deep love for gardening, filling her home and surroundings with vibrant flowers and flourishing greenery. Her garden stood as a beautiful reflection of the beauty, care, and life she poured into the world around her.
Above all, Evon treasured her family. She was the beloved wife of Bruce Wayne Irish Sr., for 42 years; the loving mother of Terrie Long, Crystal Smith, Tiffany Irish, and Bruce Irish Jr.; and the beloved grandmother of Mark, Dante, Charity, Curtis, Shiloh, Abishai, Moses, and Exodus each of whom carries a part of her love, wisdom, and spirit. Her regal legacy lives on in every life she shaped and every heart she touched.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Walter Thomas Sr., and Sallie Sills Thomas; and their children; Rev. Darrell Thomas, Walter Thomas Jr., Rosemary Raeford, Sandra Kirkland, and Rev. Samuel Thomas.
She leaves the cherished fond memories to her lovely siblings Dorthy Guy, Delores Southers, Dr. Thomas, and Nathaniel Thomas.
Family and friends are welcome for visitation on Saturday, April 11, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, 301 Curry Hollow Rd, Pittsburgh, PA 15236. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m. in the Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home Chapel.
Her life was extraordinary, her love was boundless, and her memory will remain unforgettable forever. She was indeed a queen.
