Esther Geraldine Passero April 29, 1931 - June 12, 2022
Our beloved sister, aunt, and godmother died peacefully on June 12, 2022.
A lifelong resident of Pittsburgh, Esther was born April 29, 1931 in Carrick to Italian immigrant parents, Michael and Matilda (Napolitano) Passero and was the youngest of four daughters. She is survived by her oldest sister Philomena "Phyllis" (the late Samuel) Monaco, and predeceased by her sisters Carmela (Sunday) Corella, and Clelia (Michael) Pacella. Left to mourn are her cherished nieces and nephews who were her pride and joy: Michele (Bob Russo) Monaco, Michael (Betsy) Monaco, Rosemary (Mark) Barber, Maria (Carl) Shoemaker, the late Lisa Pacella, Joseph (Leigh Ann) Pacella, Mark Monaco, Terri (Patrick) Flaherty, Patricia (Mark) Corella-Weibel as well as many adoring great-nieces & nephews.
Esther graduated from Carrick High School in 1948, received a Bachelor's Degree from Duquesne University in 1956, and a Master's Degree in Library Sciences from the University of Pittsburgh in 1964. She worked as a head librarian at the main Carnegie Library in Oakland and just recently commented that she was the first librarian who wore pants on the job! She was a gifted portrait artist as well as an avid gardener, prolific reader of the classics, and a lover of cats. She loved Pittsburgh and was a Pirate fan to the end. Visitation will be held Wednesday June 15 2022 from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home 301 Curry Hollow Rd. Pittsburgh, PA .
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday June 16th at 10:30 am at Blessed Trinity Parish worship site SAINT BASIL CHURCH 1735 Brownsville Rd. Pittsburgh, PA 15210 Burial will follow at Jefferson Memorial Park in Pittsburgh, PA. Online condolences at www.jeffersonmemorial.com.
