Mrs Elizabeth M. Markunas' Obituary
ELIZABETH BETTY MARKUNAS
Age 88 peacefully after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Beloved wife of the late Edward Markunas. Cherished mother of Edward, Thomas, daughter-in-law Terri and Nicholas Markunas. Loving Grandma to Nicole and Brian Barrera, Michael, Mitchell and Erin Markunas. Proud Gigi to Madison and Liam Barrera and Stella Rose Markunas. Dear sister of Anthony and Ellen Vetere. Loving Aunt Betty to many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her parents James Vincent and Nicoletta Vetere and siblings Margaret, Mary, Phyllis, Ralph, Henrietta, Rose, Jimmy and Carmen.
Betty had an incredible sense of humor. She loved to tell jokes and stories from the old days growing up with her brothers and sisters in South Side. She made friends everywhere she went with her "Hi Hon" greeting whether you were a life-long friend or someone she just met. She loved a good Italian or polka festival, pulling pranks every April Fool's Day on her family and "her machines" at the Meadows. Betty was proud of her Italian heritage and loved to spend time making her famous macaroni and meatballs. No one ever left Betty's house hungry.
Her true joy were her sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was always there to love and support every adventure life brought their way. She was very proud of the adults her children and grandchildren became.
Known as "Best Gigi Ever" she loved her lunch dates at Red Lobster and McDonalds with her great grandchildren who always knew would involve a surprise trinket and lots of candy from Gigi.
Betty will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Visitation will be at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15236 on Monday February 17, 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A funeral service celebrating Betty's life will be held in the chapel at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at 12:00 PM.
