In Loving Memory of Elizabeth (Betty) D. Herzberg
September 22, 1928 - June 1, 2025
Elizabeth D. Herzberg, 96, of Wexford, passed away peacefully at home on June 1, 2025. A devoted mother, beloved grandmother and great grandmother, dedicated teacher, and cherished friend, she lived a life rich in love, purpose, and quiet strength.
Born in Homestead, PA, to Conrad and Myrtle Davis, Betty graduated from Munhall High School in 1946 and earned a BA in Chemistry from Chatham College. She began her career at Bettis Field working on the Nautilus submarine project, later earning her teaching certification and Master's in Education from the University of Pittsburgh. Betty taught chemistry at Brentwood High School for over two decades, remembered for her patience and encouragement.
She married Robert E. Herzberg in 1950 and shared a loving marriage until his passing in 2002. In 2010, she married longtime family friend Edward Fassel, who passed in 2019 and was blessed to become part of his family.
A woman of strong faith, Betty was a longtime member of Pleasant Hills Community Presbyterian Church and found enjoyment and purpose serving as a Stephen Minister.
In 2022, she moved to Ashton Commons, where she made many dear friends.
She is survived by her children, Lee Herzberg and Sue Beyer; grandchildren, Elizabeth Herzberg, Jeff (Bethany) Herzberg, and David Lynch; and great-grandson, Reed Lynch.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 8, 2025 from 6:00 pm -8:00 pm at the Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15236. A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 9 at 12:00 pm in the funeral home's chapel.
In lieu of flowers, though she loved those too, donations may be made to the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.
Betty will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
