Elizabeth A. Abbott's Obituary
Elizabeth A. “Betty” Abbott, age 90, formerly of Finleyville, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of family on Sunday, July 7, 2024. Betty was born in Pittsburgh on May 1, 1934, the daughter of the late Francis and Ruth (Cruikshank) Gorman.
Betty was raised in Lawrenceville, PA, where she attended local schools. She married her beloved husband, Robert J. Abbott, Sr. and relocated to Beechview where she made her home and raised her family. Betty enjoyed a long career with Mellon Bank where she retired as a type setter.
Betty was a dedicated parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Church where she stayed active, participating in both the church choir and volunteer opportunities through meals on wheels. Betty also dedicated her time to the Monongahela Senior Center where she made many friends. Her greatest joy was the time spent around her family, especially her grandchildren. She strived to make her home one that was full of love and committed to spending quality time with her grandchildren whether it was playing games with them or going on special trips to the movies.
Betty will be remembered by those who knew and loved her for her selfless and generous demeanor, always putting others before herself.
Betty is survived by her son, Robert Abbott, Jr.; her grandchildren, Ian (Autumn) Abbott and Lura (Darren) Landoll; and her great grandchildren, Juliet, Alaina, and Allison. She also leaves her sister, Francy, and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
