Edith Rose (Hinz) Behrens' Obituary
Edith Rose (Hinz) Behrens was born to Frank and Tillie (nee Becker) Hinz on May 15, 1921 in Riverside, Illinois. She had a younger brother David Hinz (deceased). Edith was baptized, confirmed and married at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lyons, Illinois. She attended Zion Lutheran School and graduated from Riverside-Brookfield High School in 1939. After attending beauty school she worked at La-Bonita Salon in Oak Park, Illinois. On December 31, 1953 she married George Heigl Behrens. She had two children: Diane and Paul. Edith and George enjoyed 49 years together. George preceded her in death on August 10, 2003.
Edith was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Lyons, Illinois, St John's Lutheran Church, La Grange, Illinois and First United Methodist Church, McAllen, Texas. While attending St. John's Lutheran Church she was the Sunday School secretary for many years.
Edith and George loved to travel. They visited Europe, China, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico and Canada and traveled much of the United States. After George retired, they moved to McAllen, Texas and continued to travel in their RV. In the summer they would travel throughout the country reconnecting with family, friends, and Winter Texans they had met.
Edith enjoyed working on many crafts and hobbies. She made baby booties and hats, collected stamps, did rosemaling, and made small picture frames. She loved to save pictures in scrapbooks and make notes about the people and places she had visited. Edith was always making something. She also enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, reading, and playing cards with friends. Most of all she enjoyed visiting her beloved family.
On February 24, 2019, the Lord called Edith to her eternal home, having granted her a time of grace for 97 years. She believed in the resurrection to eternal life through the saving blood of her Savior, Jesus Christ. She leaves her daughter, Diane and her husband Lyle Behrens of Overland Park, Kansas; her son Paul and his wife Janet Behrens of South Park, Pennsylvania; her four grandchildren: Kristen Behrens of West Virginia, Ken Behrens and his wife Rojo of Madagascar, John Behrens and his wife Erin of Nashville, Tennessee and Daniel Behrens and his wife Rebekah of Harlingen, Texas; her six great-grandchildren, Avah Behrens-Wik, Henry Behrens, Sabal Behrens, Soatiana, Miangaly, and Rianala Behrens, and many relatives and friends.
Blessed be her memory.
She was an example to all who knew her of contentment and finding joy in the simplest things of life.
