Dorethea 'Sweetie' Turner's Obituary
Dorethea A. Turner, affectionately known as 'Sweetie', of Munhall, PA, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2026, at Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA.
She was born on January 13, 1941, in Uniontown, PA, to Effie and Ranson Turner. Dorethea was the twelfth of thirteen children, eleven of whom preceded her in death: Wesley, Mary, Elsie, Hazel, Marshall, Floyd, Harriet, Johnny, Lewis, Grace, and Lorraine.
Dorethea accepted Christ at an early age and attended services regularly at the Church of God in Edenborn, PA.
She graduated from German Township High School in McClellandtown, PA. After graduation, she relocated to Pittsburgh, PA, where she worked at Kaufmann's Department Store while attending cosmetology school. Upon completing her training, she worked as a beautician before accepting a position at Mine Supply Company in Cranberry, PA. Dorethea worked there as a technician for over 20 years until her retirement.
Following her retirement, she moved to a retirement community in Munhall, PA, where she resided until her passing.
Dorethea maintained her passion for hairstyling throughout her life, continuing to cut, color, and style her hair well into reitrement. She loved shopping and had a special appreciation for fine clothing and jewelry.
Known for her warm and outgoing personality, Dorethea never met a stranger. She enjoyed engaging in conversations on many subjects and cherished the friendships she built with her neighbors, often participating in community activities.
Dorethea leaves to cherish her memory her sister, Laura Dantzler of New Salem, PA, along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2026 from 11:00 am - 12:00 pm at the Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh 15236. A funeral service will immediately follow visitation at 12:00 pm in the funeral home's chapel.
