Donald Richard Werkmeister's Obituary
Donald Richard Werkmeister, age 91, of Bethel Park (formerly of Baldwin Boro), went home to be with his Lord and Savior, on September 5, 2020.
Donald was born in Pittsburgh on May 25, 1929, to the late Raymond and Bertha (Watton) Werkmeister. The oldest of five sons, he received his GED and entered the U.S. Airforce at the young age of 21. He met his wife Marsha Diane (Harris) Werkmeister while on leave. It was a blind date and he decided after three dates that she was the one and asked her to marry him. They married a year later and lived on base in Maine for five months. After he was honorably discharged, they settled in the South Hills area of Pittsburgh. They eventually bought a house in Baldwin Boro and raised four children.
Donald was the loving husband to Marsha Diane Werkmeister for 66 years; father of Steven D. (Marlene) Werkmeister, Karen D. (Timothy) Murray, Donna M. (Robert) Falce, Wayne J. (Kimberly) Werkmeister; grandfather to Jacob Werkmeister, Valene Werkmeister, Justin Murray, Zachary Murray, Jessica Murray, Mara Falce, Michael Falce, Alex Werkmeister and Sarah Werkmeister; and was great-grandfather of Naomi Falce. He leaves behind his brother Allen Werkmeister. Donald was preceded in death by his siblings, Earl Werkmeister, Norma Jean, Raymond Werkmeister and Walter Werkmeister. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews who adored him.
Donald served in the U.S. Airforce from 1950 -1954, during the Korean War. When he was honorably discharged, he worked for The Pittsburgh Press and stayed with them for 45 years, retiring in 1992. He adored his wife Marsha and did everything with her in retirement. He loved taking walks in South Park, eating out, and going to the malls with her. He also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles. He loved God above all else and attended church regularly. He also loved his family dearly. He looked forward to company and was excited to tell a story from the Airforce, work, or his childhood. He loved to talk about his Lord and Savior in hopes that his family and friends would accept the Lord as their personal savior. His family will truly miss his sense of humor and his kid-like antics; the grandchildren especially knew that he loved them and treated them with a “skip” to the dollar store or that cookie before dinner. As his family mourns the loss of their wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather we know he is with the Lord in Heaven. Donald loved all of his relatives and was a generous, kind and loving man. He will be missed dearly.
